On my way to the Libfest event in Witney, I decided to stop off at Oxford parkrun for a spot of tourism for parkrun 97 and tourism spot number 23! Leaving the house at 7am to travel from Market Harborough, I did wonder what I was doing up so early – especially since we’d been offered such hot weather and at that point there was a mist hanging over.
I arrived early enough to quickly find a parking space, the sun had come out so I made the most of it and took a nice stroll to the start area – said hello to the run director and volunteer team ahead of the first timers briefing.
3,2,1 GO! parkrun time, trying very hard not to get caught up in the speed of the first mile we made our way around the first two laps ahead of going off into the distance, and seeing the fast runners ahead!
Different to my usual parkrun which is tarmac/path, the course was really varied, offering a mixture of grass, tarmac and tracks. This made it really interesting and on the second lap I enjoyed almost ‘ticking off’ the areas that I’d done before.
It was getting super hot at this point so I made a jog up the incline for the final approach and with the finish line in sight tried my hardest to move my legs that little bit faster (whether it worked or not I don’t know!).
As ever a huge thank you to all of the volunteers, cheering us runners around and thanks to Oxford parkrun for being so welcoming!
