Decathlon Sports Series: Rushden Lakes

I received kit from Decathlon for the purpose of taking part in and reviewing the event. This is a completely honest review of the event. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/decathlon-bloggers-community.html

Instead of an hour’s drive to the nearest Decathlon store (or visiting one when you walked past one like I did a few months ago in Italy!), it was pretty exciting to see one open up at the new Rushden Lakes shopping park just half an hour away.

Even more so that I spotted they were holding an event as part of the Decathlon Running Series. I and a few others from my run club signed up – there’s no harm in a free Sunday 5k with a little bit of shopping afterwards!

Rushden Lakes in general is known as being a nightmare for parking so I made sure I arrived in plenty of time. As it was a Sunday morning luckily there was no traffic and I managed to get a parking space that meant it wasn’t too far for me to grab my coat at the end.

Registration was easy, a quick sign-up online, turned up on the day (you could pick your number up in advance) to get the event t-shirt and run number. I then met with my running club for a catch-up before the run went off. Luckily, I didn’t need to go but I think there was an expectation of more toilets but I believe the only ones closeby were at Costa.

We started off with a warm-up – it was cold so I took full advantage, even though I was caught on camera looking a little lost …

The run started around the back of the shopping area and out around the lakes. I felt good, there was a friendly atmosphere and the marshals were enthusiastic and encouraging as we made our way around the course.

My watch died early on so there was a fumble around early on to try and turn my phone on to record mode!

After a check of the clock I ran the 5k in approx. 27.46 which I was happy with. A medal was put around my neck (nice surprise!), I picked up my goody bag with some water and energy bar then made my way back to the car for my jumper before heading to the store for a nose around.

The course was so nice, it was so well organised and I had a great time! I hope it’s something that they do again as it was just a really good, nice event for everyone!
